What makes a printed cup different
A plain cup holds a drink, and a printed cup tells people something while it does. The design might be a hand-drawn dog for a pet-friendly café, a coffee bean pattern for a roastery or a strong typographic slogan for a campaign.
This page is about the print itself: coverage, colour and the kinds of artwork that work on a curved paper surface. If your main aim is a logo identity across every cup you sell, our branded cups page covers that side in more depth.
Printed cups cover every style we make, from espresso cups to large smoothie cups. You can see the whole family in our printed and coloured cups collection, and each size can carry the same artwork scaled to fit.
Who orders printed paper cups
Printed cups are ordered by people who want the cup itself to say something. Independent cafés use an illustration that matches their shop sign, while roasters print a pattern that echoes their coffee bags.
Event organisers and marketing teams order them for launches, open days and charity drives, often with a design that will only run for a few weeks. Bakeries and juice bars pick bright, cheerful prints that stand out in a crowded high street.

Choosing your print coverage
Coverage is the first decision, and it shapes the whole design. A one-side print keeps things simple and leaves the rest of the cup clean.
Two sides suits a front and back layout, such as a logo on one face and a short message on the other. A full wrap uses the whole outside of the cup and is where patterns and illustrations really come alive.
Smaller cafés often start with a single panel and move to a full wrap once they see how the cups go down with customers.
| Coverage | What it looks like | Works well for |
|---|---|---|
| One side | A single printed panel on a plain cup | Clean logos, minimal designs |
| Two sides | Front and back panels | Logo plus a message or social handle |
| Full wrap | Artwork all the way around | Patterns, illustrations, campaigns |
Full colour or Pantone matching
Full colour CMYK printing builds every shade from four inks, which is ideal for photos, gradients and illustrations with many colours. It reproduces detailed artwork faithfully across the cup.
Pantone matching uses specific mixed colours and is the better choice when one exact shade matters, such as a brand red or a signature teal. Many designs use both, with a Pantone base colour and CMYK detail on top.
Not sure which you need? Send the artwork and our designers will say which method suits it before you see the proof, and the proof will show the colours side by side if you ask.
Patterns and illustrations
Repeat patterns are some of the most popular printed designs we make. Stripes, coffee beans, leaves and geometric lines all wrap neatly because the repeat hides the seam where the board meets.
Illustrations need a little more care, since a single drawing has to sit well from the front without being cut by the seam. For more pattern ideas, browse our patterned paper cup designs and see how repeats behave on different sizes.
Seasonal and campaign prints
A short run of printed cups is a simple way to mark a season or a launch. Halloween, Easter and Valentine's designs give regulars something new to notice, and they photograph well for social posts.
Campaign prints work the same way for a new drink, an anniversary or a charity week. Order them alongside your usual cups so the seasonal design runs for a few weeks and then gives way to your standard print.
Plan seasonal runs a few weeks ahead of the date. Allowing time for the proof, printing and delivery means the cups are on the counter when the season starts, not halfway through it.
Getting your artwork ready
Good artwork saves time at proof stage, and a few checks make a big difference. Our step-by-step cup design guide covers templates and safe areas in detail.
- Use vector files such as AI, PDF, EPS or SVG for logos and type.
- Supply photos and illustrations as high resolution PNG or JPG.
- Note any Pantone references you need matched.
- Keep important detail away from the base and the rim.
- Tell us the size, so we fit the artwork to the right template.
Try a design before you commit
Seeing artwork on a cup shape is very different from seeing it flat on a screen. A pattern that looks balanced on a rectangle can bunch up as it narrows towards the base.
You can upload a design and preview it in our online cup mock-up tool. We then turn your choice into a proper digital proof and revise it as often as you need.
It is also a quick way to compare two ideas. Many customers upload a pattern and an illustration, look at both on the cup, and decide in minutes.
Printing on white or kraft board
The board colour underneath affects how your print looks. On white board, colours appear bright and true to the screen.
On kraft, the brown fibre shows through lighter inks, which gives a warmer and more muted finish. Our kraft paper cups page shows how designs read on the natural brown base.
Common printing mistakes
Most print problems are visible at proof stage, and we flag the ones we spot. The most common one is a low resolution logo copied from a website, which looks fine on a phone and fuzzy on a cup.
Text placed across the seam of a full wrap is another regular issue, as is expecting pale colours to show strongly on kraft. Hairline strokes can fade at small sizes, so give lines a little weight.
Finally, check every panel of the proof. People often approve the front and only notice a typo on the back once the cups arrive.
Timing, delivery and reprints
After you approve the proof, your printed cups are produced within 4 to 6 working days. Tracked delivery is free to the UK, and usually lands within 2 to 3 working days.
If the print does not match the approved proof, photograph the cups and contact us within 10 days. Our misprint and damage policy explains how we reprint or refund.

Printed Paper Cups questions
What is the difference between printed and branded cups?
Printed cups focus on the artwork itself, such as patterns and illustrations. Branded cups focus on your logo and identity across your range.
Can you print photos on paper cups?
Yes. Full colour CMYK printing handles photos well if the image is high resolution.
Do you match Pantone colours?
Yes. Give us the Pantone reference and we match it on the cup.
Can the print go all the way around the cup?
Yes, a full wrap covers the whole outside. It suits patterns and illustrations best.
Will there be a visible seam on a full wrap?
Every paper cup has a seam where the board joins. Repeat patterns hide it well, and we position illustrations to avoid it.
Can I order a Halloween or Easter design?
Yes. Seasonal designs such as Halloween, Easter and Valentine's are popular short runs.
Can I print on kraft cups?
Yes. Colours look warmer and softer on kraft than on white board.
What if my artwork is not print ready?
Send what you have. Our designers prepare it for free and show the result on a proof.
Can different sizes share the same print?
Yes. We scale the artwork to each size so it keeps its proportions.
Can I see a proof before printing?
Yes. Every order gets a free digital proof, revised until you approve it.
How long does printing take?
Printed cups are made in 4 to 6 working days from the moment you approve the proof. Delivery is free and tracked to the UK.
What do printed cups cost?
Pricing for printed cups begins at £0.25 per cup. The exact figure for your size, wall and coverage is set out in a written quote.
What are printed paper cups?
Printed paper cups are disposable cups carrying your own artwork, printed in full colour CMYK or matched Pantone shades. The print can sit on one side, both sides or wrap all the way around, and it can be a pattern or illustration as much as a logo.
