Why buy cups and lids as one order

Most leaking takeaway drinks come down to a lid that was bought separately and almost fits. A lid that sits a millimetre loose will hold on the counter, then pop off in a car cup holder.

Ordering the two together removes that risk. We match the lid to the rim of the exact cup we print for you, so the set is checked before it leaves us.

It also means one quote, one proof and one tracked delivery. Your team opens a single delivery and has everything needed to serve.

Who orders printed cups with lids

The people who need a lid on every cup are the ones whose drinks travel. Think of a kiosk at a railway station, a drive-through, or a café that sends lattes out with a delivery rider.

Offices that run a coffee point for staff also order sets. A lid stops spills on desks and in lifts, which matters more than the look of the cup.

Event caterers like a lid for a simpler reason. Guests walk and talk while holding a drink, and a covered cup survives a crowded marquee.

Bakeries and farm shops that sell a coffee with a pastry order sets too. Their customers often carry a bag in one hand and a drink in the other, so a secure lid saves a lot of mess.

  • Station and roadside kiosks
  • Cafés with delivery app orders
  • Office coffee points
  • Festival and event bars
  • Bakeries selling drinks to take away

Choosing the cup size for each drink

Pick sizes by the drinks on your menu, then let the lid follow. Most coffee shops settle on two or three sizes, and each one gets its own lid.

A small range is easier to stock. Every extra size adds another lid to store and another box to reorder.

If you are unsure, start with 8oz and 12oz with lids, and add a third size once you see what sells. A full paper cup size range shows what else we print.

How lid fit actually works

Two cups can both be called 12oz and still have different rims. The rim width, not the ounce number, decides which lid will snap on.

That is why we fit lids to the cup we make rather than to a size label. When you change wall type, we check the rim again before sending lids.

If you already hold stock from another supplier, tell us. Mixing old lids with new cups is a common cause of loose fits, and our separate paper cup lids page explains how we size replacements.

Picking a wall for covered drinks

A lid keeps heat in, so the cup wall gets warmer to hold than an open cup would. Wall choice matters more on a lidded drink than many people expect.

Single wall suits short trips and drinks handed straight to a seated customer. For a commute or a walk across a park, a thicker wall is kinder on the hand, and our double wall paper cups are the usual pick.

Ripple wall gives the most grip and a textured feel. It suits busy counters where staff hand over drinks quickly.

Printing your design around the lid line

The top few millimetres of a cup sit under the lid. Anything printed there will be hidden once the lid goes on.

We keep logos and text clear of that band on your proof. A full colour CMYK print or a Pantone match works on one side, two sides or a full wrap.

Send artwork as AI, PDF, EPS, SVG, PNG or JPG. If you want to see the layout first, try it in our free cup mock-up page before you request a proof.

Lid colour and how it looks with your print

Black lids frame a dark or kraft cup and hide coffee marks around the sip hole. White lids look crisp on a white cup and suit lighter brand colours.

Some cafés use one lid colour for hot drinks and another for decaf. It is a quick visual cue for staff at the pass.

Tell us your preference in the quote. Your free digital proof shows the lid colour beside the printed cup, so you can judge the whole set before anything is made.

Adding sleeves and carriers

A lid handles spills, but it does not help with heat or with carrying four drinks at once. Many takeaway sites add a sleeve on single wall cups and a carrier for group orders.

If your trade includes office rounds, read our guide to lids, sleeves and carriers. It explains which extras earn their space behind the counter.

Delivery app orders are the other case. A carrier keeps two or three lidded drinks upright in a rider's bag, and a tight lid does the rest.

Storing and serving lidded cups behind the counter

Lids take up more space than people plan for. A sleeve of lids is wider than a stack of cups, so measure your shelf before a busy weekend.

Keep each lid stack next to its matching cup size. Staff grab the right one without thinking, and fewer lids end up in the bin after a wrong fit.

On a drive-through or kiosk, put the lids within arm's reach of the machine. Every second saved at the hand-off adds up across a morning rush.

  • Stack lids by size, nearest the machine
  • Label shelves with the cup size
  • Keep spare lids for the busiest size
  • Check stock levels every Friday

How to order cups with lids

The process is the same as for any printed cup, with one extra choice for the lid. Most orders move from proof to delivery in under two weeks.

  1. Tell us the sizes, the wall and the lid colour you want.
  2. Send your logo or describe the design you have in mind.
  3. Check the free digital proof and ask for changes until it is right.
  4. Your cups go to print and are finished within 4 to 6 working days of your approval.
  5. Cups and lids travel together on a tracked service that takes 2 to 3 working days, free to UK addresses.

Mistakes to avoid with lidded cups

The first mistake is ordering lids by ounce and not by rim. The second is placing a logo so high that the lid covers half of it.

Another is choosing a single wall cup for very hot drinks that will be carried a long way. Customers notice the heat before they notice your design.

Some buyers also order too few lids. Plan for a few extra per hundred cups, because lids get dropped and staff sometimes double up on a wobbly fit from older stock.

Paper Cups With Lids questions

Do the lids come in the same delivery as the cups?

Yes. Cups and their lids are packed and sent together by tracked delivery, which takes 2 to 3 working days after printing.

Will the lids fit cups I bought elsewhere?

Not always, because rim widths vary between makers. Tell us the cup you already have and we will check the fit before sending lids.

Can I choose black or white lids?

Yes. Pick the lid colour in your quote and we will show it on your free digital proof.

Do I need a different lid for each cup size?

Yes. Each size has its own rim width, so an 8oz lid will not fit a 12oz cup.

Does changing the wall type change the lid?

It can. Double and ripple wall cups may have a different rim from a single wall cup of the same size, so we check fit for the wall you choose.

Will the lid cover part of my printed logo?

Only if the design runs into the top band of the cup. We keep logos and text below the lid line on your proof.

Which cup size sells best with a lid?

For most UK coffee shops it is 12oz, followed by 8oz. A 16oz size is common where iced drinks or large lattes sell well.

Can I order lids for only some of my cup sizes?

Yes. You can order lids for the takeaway sizes only and leave smaller sit-in sizes without lids.

How much do printed cups with lids cost?

Printed cups start from £0.25 per cup. The final price for cups and lids is confirmed in your written quote.

How long does an order of cups and lids take?

Allow 4 to 6 working days of production once your proof is approved, then 2 to 3 working days for tracked delivery.

What happens if lids arrive damaged?

Email photos of the damaged lids or cups within 10 days of delivery, and we will reprint or refund the damaged items.

Is food-contact board available for lidded cups?

Yes, food-contact board is available on request. Recyclable lining options can also be requested.

What are paper cups with lids?

Paper cups with lids are printed takeaway cups supplied together with lids sized to their rim. You choose the cup size and wall, we print your design, and the lids come in the same delivery so every drink can leave the counter covered.
