Who orders printed cup sleeves
Most sleeve orders come from cafés that already buy plain cups and want their brand on every drink without changing cup supplier. A coffee cart or market stall often starts the same way.
Roasters use sleeves to put a bean origin or a short brewing note on the cup. Event caterers like them because one stock of plain cups can carry a different printed band for each booking.
A sleeve also suits a business that is still testing its look. You can try a design on a few hundred drinks before committing to fully printed cups.
- Independent cafés pouring single wall cups
- Coffee carts, kiosks and market stalls
- Roasters running a tasting bar or pop-up
- Caterers serving tea and coffee at conferences
- Offices handing out drinks at open days
A sleeve or a fully printed cup?
A printed cup carries your design on the cup wall itself. A sleeve moves the branding onto a separate band, so the cup underneath can stay plain.
That split is useful when your cup order is large and your design changes often. You can run an Easter band in spring and a Halloween band in October while the same plain cups sit in the stockroom.
If you would rather print the cup and skip the extra piece, look at our printed single wall paper cups instead.
Sleeve sizes and the cups they suit
A sleeve has to match the taper of the cup, or it will ride up or slip down. Send us the size and wall of the cup you use and we shape the band to it.
The table shows how cafés usually pair sleeve sizes with drinks on their menu.
If you pour three sizes, you do not need three designs. We scale one artwork to each band and show every size on the proof.
| Cup size | Usual drink | Why a sleeve helps |
|---|---|---|
| 8oz | Flat white, small tea | Small cups are held lower, so the band sits where the thumb lands |
| 12oz | Regular latte or cappuccino | The most handled size in most cafés, so the band gets seen most |
| 16oz | Large latte, filter coffee | More hot liquid means more heat through a single wall |
| 20oz | Extra large or iced coffee topped with hot milk | A tall cup gives the band more room for a message |
When a sleeve beats a thicker cup wall
Single wall cups are light and cheap to store, but they pass heat straight through. A sleeve fixes that only where it is needed, on the hot drinks.
Double and ripple wall cups already hold heat back, so a sleeve on those is mostly for branding. Our guide on choosing single or double wall cups sets out when each route makes sense.
Some cafés keep single wall cups for cold drinks and add sleeves only to hot orders. That way the stockroom holds one kind of cup and one kind of band.
Designing the printed band
The band is a curved strip, so the artwork is laid out flat and then bends around the cup. We send you a flat template and a mock-up so you can see both views.
Keep your logo away from the join at the back, where the two ends overlap. Text near the top and bottom edges also gets lost as the band curves.
For layout tips that carry over from cups to sleeves, read our guide to designing a printed coffee cup.
- Place the logo in the middle of the front panel
- Put the website or social handle on the side panel
- Leave the overlap area free of text
- Keep small print at least a few millimetres from each edge
Kraft brown or white sleeve board
Kraft board gives a natural brown base, and dark inks such as black, green or deep red read well on it. Pale colours print softer on kraft, so a white logo needs a solid ink block behind it.
White board shows bright colours as they look on screen. It suits bold patterns, photos and brand colours that must match a shopfront.
Look at the photos above to compare the looks. The striped and orange bands show bold flat colour, while the coffee bean pattern sits on kraft.
If you are unsure, ask for both in the proof stage. We can mock up the same artwork on kraft and on white so you can compare them side by side.
Matching sleeves with cups and lids
A sleeve looks best when the cup and lid colours work with the band. A kraft sleeve on a white cup with a black lid is a common pairing in our photos, and so is a coloured band on a plain cup.
If you need lids at the same time, our fitted lids for paper cups are quoted to the same cup size. Ordering both together means the sizes are checked against each other before printing.
Think about the full stack on the counter as well. Cups, sleeves and lids are usually set out together, so a consistent colour scheme makes a small serving area look tidy.
How a sleeve order runs
Every order starts with a free design check and a digital proof. We revise it until you approve, then production takes 4 to 6 working days.
You can request a sleeve quote online with your cup size and artwork.
- Tell us the cup size and wall you use
- Send your logo or design in any common file type
- Check the flat proof and the cup mock-up
- Approve, and we print your sleeves
- Tracked delivery arrives in 2 to 3 working days
Mistakes we see on sleeve orders
Most problems with sleeves come from the cup, not the print. A band ordered for one brand of 12oz cup may not sit right on another brand of the same size.
A quick photo of your cup next to a ruler, or the code printed on the cup base, saves a lot of back and forth.
- Ordering sleeves before confirming which cups they go on
- Putting the logo across the overlap at the back
- Using a thin font that fills in on kraft board
- Choosing pale ink on kraft with no white base
- Forgetting that a 16oz sleeve will not fit an 8oz cup
Delivery and keeping sleeves in stock
Sleeves are flat, so a large order takes up little shelf space compared with cups. That makes it easy to hold a few months of stock behind the counter.
Sleeves also keep well in a dry cupboard. Store them flat and away from steam so the board stays crisp and the bands slide on easily.
Delivery is free to the UK, and you can read the full delivery times and tracking details before you order. If a box arrives damaged or misprinted, report it within 10 days with photos and we reprint or refund.

Paper Cup Sleeves questions
Will your sleeves fit the cups I already buy?
Usually yes, as long as you tell us the cup size and ideally the make. Cup tapers vary between brands, so we check the band shape against your cup before printing.
Which cup sizes do your sleeves come in?
We make sleeves for 8oz, 12oz, 16oz and 20oz cups. Other sizes are quoted on request.
Do I need a sleeve on a double wall cup?
Not for heat, because a double wall cup already insulates. Some cafés still add one for branding or a seasonal message.
Can I print both sides of the sleeve?
We print the outer face of the band in full colour, front to back. Tell us if you also want a message on the inner side and we will quote it.
Kraft or white, which should I choose?
Kraft suits dark inks and a natural look. White is better for bright colours, photos and exact brand colour matches.
Can I change the design for Easter or Halloween?
Yes. Many cafés keep plain cups and order a separate printed band for each season or event.
Where should my logo sit on the sleeve?
Centre it on the front panel and keep it clear of the overlap at the back. We mark the safe area on your proof.
How much do printed sleeves cost?
Our prices start from £0.25 per cup, and sleeves are priced in a written quote. The figure depends on size, board and quantity.
How long does a sleeve order take?
Your sleeves go into production once the proof is signed off, and printing takes 4 to 6 working days. Allow another 2 to 3 working days for the tracked parcel to reach your door.
Can a sleeve match the colour of my shopfront?
Yes, we print in CMYK or in Pantone for a closer match. Pantone is the safer choice when a colour must match your signage.
Are the sleeves recyclable?
Sleeves are plain paper board, and recyclable options are available on request. Ask us when you request your quote.
What if some sleeves arrive damaged?
Photograph the damaged or misprinted sleeves and send the pictures to us within 10 days. We then reprint them or refund them.
What are paper cup sleeves?
Paper cup sleeves are printed card bands that wrap around the middle of a takeaway cup.,They add a layer between hot coffee and the customer's fingers, and they give you a branded panel without reprinting the cup itself.
