What mini paper cups are used for

A mini cup is about the moment of trying something. Roasters hand out a new single origin, juice brands pour a sip of a fresh flavour and bakeries offer a taste of hot chocolate at the counter.

The cup is small enough that people accept it without thinking, and printed well it tells them exactly whose drink they just enjoyed. That is why sampling teams care about the print more than the size suggests.

  • Coffee roasters running tasting days
  • Juice and smoothie brands sampling in shops
  • Espresso bars serving single shots to take away
  • Children's party hosts and party planners
  • Wine and cider producers pouring alcohol-free tasters

2oz, 3oz or 4oz: picking the right mini size

The difference between the three is small in millilitres but big in how the serving feels. A 2oz cup is a true sip, while a 4oz cup can hold a proper espresso or a child's portion of squash.

Use the table to match each size to the job, and see our smallest 2oz paper cups if you only need tiny pours.

Running a tasting stand with mini cups

At a busy stand the cup is the only thing a visitor takes away. Print your name, the product and a simple prompt such as a social handle, and keep it large enough to read at arm's length.

Pre-pour onto a tray so people can help themselves, and keep a second stack ready under the table. Mini cups nest tightly, so a few hundred take up very little space in a crate.

A bin beside the stand matters as much as the cups. Most tasters are finished in seconds, and a tidy stand keeps visitors coming over.

Mini cups for children's parties

Our photos show animal faces wrapped around 4oz cups, and that kind of design is popular for birthdays, nursery events and school fairs. A small cup also suits small hands and means less juice ends up on the floor.

You can give each guest a different animal or print one character across the whole order. Try layouts in free Design Your Cups preview before you send anything.

Halloween and Easter designs work well at this size too, as long as the faces and shapes stay big and simple.

Espresso shots and short serves

Some cafés sell a single or double espresso to take away and find an 8oz cup far too big for it. A 3oz or 4oz mini cup keeps the crema close to the rim and looks deliberate.

For a hot espresso we suggest a double wall 4oz cup, since the drink is often held and sipped straight away. Single wall works for 2oz and 3oz tasters that are drunk in one go.

Mini cups also suit tea rooms that offer a tasting flight of three or four blends. Lined up on a board, matching printed cups make the flight look like a planned part of the menu rather than an afterthought.

Designing for a very small print area

On a 2oz cup the visible face is only a few centimetres wide. A detailed logo with thin lines can turn into a smudge, so we often suggest a simplified mark or just the name in a bold typeface.

Full colour CMYK and Pantone matching both work at this size. Patterns, stripes and single characters read better than paragraphs of text.

If you are not sure, send the logo as it is and our designers will prepare a version that holds up on the proof.

Lids, trays and serving

Most tasters are served without a lid, but a flat lid helps when samples are pre-poured and carried across a hall. A sip lid on a 4oz espresso cup stops splashes on the walk back to the office.

Each mini size has its own rim, so order lids against the exact cup. Small food samples such as sauces or dips belong in paper portion cups made for food rather than drinking cups.

Trays matter more than lids for most sampling. A flat tray with a raised edge holds twenty or thirty minis steady, and it lets staff refill the stand in one trip instead of five.

Ordering mini cups

Event dates drive most mini cup orders, so plan backwards from the day you need them. If you are unsure which size to pick, send us a quick message and describe the event.

  1. Tell us the size, wall and how many you need for the event.
  2. Upload your logo or describe the design you have in mind.
  3. Review the free digital proof and ask for changes.
  4. Approve it, and your minis are printed over 4 to 6 working days.
  5. Expect the tracked parcel 2 to 3 working days after dispatch.

How many mini cups to plan for

Mini cups are cheap to hand out, so stands tend to get through more than planned. Visitors often come back for a second taste, and staff use a few themselves when checking the product through the day.

Count the hours the stand is open and think about how busy each hour will be. It is far better to take a spare carton home than to run out by lunchtime on the first day of a three-day show.

For parties the maths is simpler. Plan on at least two or three cups per child, since cups get put down, forgotten and replaced.

Common mistakes with mini cups

Mini cups are simple, yet a few habits catch people out every season. Most of these are easy to fix before the proof is approved.

The last point causes the most stress. A late order often means sampling from plain cups, which wastes the one moment when people are paying attention to the brand.

  • Putting a full web address on a 2oz cup
  • Ordering mini cups for food samples instead of portion cups
  • Forgetting lids when samples are carried any distance
  • Choosing pale ink on a white cup that disappears outdoors
  • Ordering too close to the event date

Mini Paper Cups questions

What is the smallest paper cup you print?

Our smallest standard size is 2oz, which holds about 57ml. Smaller sizes can be quoted on request.

Are mini cups suitable for hot drinks?

Yes. For hot espresso we suggest a double wall 4oz cup so it is comfortable to hold.

Can I print a different animal on each mini cup?

Yes, a design can include several characters around the wrap. Tell us what you have in mind and we show it on the proof.

Which mini size is best for coffee tastings?

A 2oz or 3oz cup gives a fair taste without wasting coffee. Roasters often choose 3oz so there is room to swirl.

Can mini cups hold cold juice or squash?

Yes, mini cups work for cold drinks at tastings and parties. Let us know so we can suggest a suitable lining.

Do mini cups come with lids?

Lids are optional. We supply flat or sip lids sized to the rim of each mini cup.

Will my full logo fit on a 2oz cup?

Usually a simplified version works better. Our designers can adapt it for free so it stays sharp.

Can I use mini cups for sauces or dips?

We recommend our portion cups for food. Mini drinking cups are shaped for sipping, not dipping.

Can I order mini cups for a Halloween event?

Yes. Halloween and Easter designs are popular on mini cups, especially with bold shapes and faces.

Can I mix 2oz and 4oz cups in one order?

Yes. We quote each size and can scale the same artwork to both.

How do I get a price for mini cups?

Send the sizes and quantity through our quote form. Prices start from £0.25 per cup and are confirmed in writing.

Are recyclable linings available for mini cups?

Yes, we can quote mini cups with a recyclable lining if you ask. Mention it in your quote request so the proof and price reflect it.

What are mini paper cups?

Mini paper cups are the smallest cups we print, from 2oz to 4oz, holding roughly 57ml to 114ml. They are used for samples, shots of coffee and small servings where a full-size cup would look empty and waste stock.
