90mm Rim Paper Cups with Your Own Print

A 90mm cup is described by the width of its rim, not by how much it holds. Ordering by rim lets you run one lid across more than one cup size, and we print each cup after a free proof.

  • Named by rim width, not capacity
  • One lid size across matched cups
  • Rim checked before you approve
  • White or kraft, any wall type

What 90mm actually means

Most cups are sold by capacity, such as 8oz or 12oz. A 90mm cup is described by the outside width of its rim instead, measured straight across the top.

That number matters because lids are made to fit rims, not ounces. Two cups that hold different amounts can take the same lid if their rims match.

We always confirm the rim size of each cup in your quote. That way you know exactly which lid you are ordering before anything is printed.

Height and base width vary independently of the rim. Two 90mm cups can stand at very different heights, so always confirm capacity as well.

Who orders cups by rim size

Busy cafés like the simplicity of a single lid for their regular and large drinks. Staff grab one stack of lids no matter which cup they are filling.

Coffee carts and kiosks with little storage benefit most. Every lid size you drop frees up space behind a crowded counter.

Multi-site cafés find it useful for a different reason. When every branch uses the same rim, lids can be moved between sites if one runs short.

  • Cafés keeping one lid for regular and large drinks
  • Coffee carts and kiosks short on storage
  • Buyers replacing cups to fit lids they already stock
  • Machine operators who need a set cup width
  • Multi-site cafés standardising stock across branches

Sharing one lid across sizes

The main reason to order 90mm cups is to cut down the number of lids you keep. If your 12oz and 16oz cups share a rim, one lid covers both.

That means fewer part-used boxes, fewer ordering mistakes and a tidier lid station. It also makes it easier for new staff, who cannot pick the wrong lid.

Rims vary between ranges, even at the same capacity, which is why we check them per order. Our article on picking lids, sleeves and carriers covers the checks in more detail.

It can also reduce waste. Lids left over when you change cup sizes are no longer stranded, because they still fit the cups you keep.

Measuring the cups you use now

If you want new cups to fit lids you already have, measure carefully before asking for a quote. A couple of millimetres can make the difference between a snug fit and a leak.

Use a ruler or calipers across the widest point of the rolled rim. Send us that figure and a photo of the lid, and we will match it.

If you have no calipers, a steel ruler laid across the top works well enough for a first check. We will confirm the exact rim at the proof stage either way.

  1. Take a cup from the stack you use now
  2. Measure across the top from outer edge to outer edge
  3. Measure the height and the base width too
  4. Photograph the lid you want to keep using
  5. Include those rim, height and base figures when you ask for a quote
  6. Check the rim size stated on your proof before approving

Choosing a wall for 90mm cups

The rim size does not limit your wall choice. Single, double and ripple wall cups can all be made to a 90mm rim.

Bear in mind that a double or ripple wall adds to the outside of the body, not the rim. The lid still fits, but the cup feels wider in the hand. Our double wall paper cups page explains how the extra layer is built.

A practical approach is single wall with a sleeve for the 12oz and double wall for the 16oz. Both still take the same 90mm lid.

Print on 90mm cups

Each capacity sharing a 90mm rim has its own height, so artwork is resized for each one. A logo that sits well on the 12oz may need moving slightly on the 16oz.

We show every cup on its own proof, so you can see both versions before approving. Full wrap print is popular here because it looks consistent across heights.

If you want help laying out a design across sizes, our online cup designer lets you try ideas before sending artwork. Files can be AI, PDF, EPS, SVG, PNG or JPG, printed in CMYK or Pantone.

Remember that the two heights sit side by side on the counter. A design that lines up across both looks deliberate, and customers read it as one range.

Cost and delivery for 90mm cups

Printed 90mm cups start from £0.25 per cup, and the exact figure is confirmed in your written quote. Each capacity is priced on its own line so you can compare.

After you approve the proofs, printing takes 4 to 6 working days. The cups then ship tracked, arriving in 2 to 3 working days, free anywhere in the UK.

Lids can be quoted at the same time, which is the easiest way to make sure everything fits. Mention the lid style you prefer when you get in touch, or price your 90mm cups and lids online.

If you change cup supplier later, keep a note of your 90mm rim figure. It makes future lid orders far simpler wherever you buy them.

Mistakes when ordering by rim

Rim-based ordering saves time, but only if the measurements are right. These are the slips we see most.

Most of these can be caught at the proof stage. Read the stated rim and capacity of each cup slowly before you approve.

  • Measuring the inside of the rim instead of the outer edge
  • Assuming all 12oz cups have a 90mm rim
  • Mixing cups from one range with lids from another
  • Forgetting that wall type changes the feel, not the lid fit
  • Approving a proof without checking the stated rim size

Matching lids and sleeves

Sip lids, flat lids and domed lids are all made for a 90mm rim. Choose sip lids for hot coffee, flat lids for carrying and domed lids for drinks with toppings.

Sleeves fit the body rather than the rim, so they depend on the capacity and wall. Tell us which cups need them and we will size printed sleeves for each cup to match.

Lid colour can also help staff. Some cafés use one lid colour for hot drinks and another for decaf, while keeping the same 90mm size throughout.

Is a 90mm cup right for you?

If you sell one size only, rim width matters less, because you just order the matching lid. It becomes useful once you stock two or more sizes and want fewer lids.

For a full picture of sizes before you decide, our UK guide to paper cup sizes sets out capacities side by side. You can then choose which sizes to group under one rim.

A simple test is to count the lid boxes in your stockroom. If there are three or more sizes, grouping cups by rim is likely to save you space and mistakes.

Board and lining options for 90mm cups

White board suits bright branding, while kraft gives a natural brown look that many cafés prefer. Rim size has no effect on which board you can choose.

We can supply your 90mm cups on food-contact board when asked, and recyclable lining options are quoted on request. Note both in your quote request so every size is priced the same way.

90mm Paper Cups questions

What does 90mm mean on a paper cup?

It is the width of the rim measured across the top. It tells you which lid fits, not how much the cup holds.

Which cup sizes have a 90mm rim?

It is common on 12oz and 16oz cups, but rims vary between ranges. We confirm the rim of each cup in your quote.

Can one lid fit two cup sizes?

Yes, if both cups share the same rim. Ordering 90mm cups is the usual way to do this.

Will your 90mm cups fit my existing lids?

Send us the rim measurement and a photo of your lid. We will match it and state the rim on your proof.

How do I measure a cup rim?

Measure straight across the top from outer edge to outer edge. Use calipers if you have them for the most accurate figure.

Does double wall change the rim size?

No, the lid still fits the same rim. The extra wall makes the body feel wider in the hand.

Can I print the same design on 12oz and 16oz 90mm cups?

Yes, we resize the artwork for each height. Each cup gets its own proof.

Which lids are available for 90mm cups?

Sip, flat and domed lids are all made for this rim. Choose the style that suits your drinks.

What does a printed 90mm cup cost?

From £0.25 per cup. Each capacity is priced in your written quote.

How long do 90mm cups take?

Printing runs for 4 to 6 working days after the proofs are approved. Tracked delivery adds 2 to 3 working days.

Can I get 90mm cups in kraft?

Yes, kraft and white board are both available. Rim size does not limit the board.

What if my 90mm cups do not match the proof?

Send us photos of the faulty cups within 10 days of delivery. We will print those 90mm cups again or refund them.

What are 90mm paper cups?

90mm paper cups are cups whose rim measures about 90 millimetres across. Several common sizes, often 12oz and 16oz, can share this rim, so cafés order by rim to keep one lid in stock for more than one cup.
